Overview

General Operator (Permanent) – Pay rate £12.82 per hour plus 25% shift allowance for the late shift, paid breaks and bonus. Here at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, in Rotherham, we are proud to manufacture Orkot bearings and wear rings. Orkot is the world's leading brand in composite bearing material for wear resistant bearings under high load.

We have a vacancy for a General Operator to join our Wrapping Shop in the manufacturing facility in Rotherham.


Hours and shifts

This position is 38 hours per week on a rotating 2-shift system of earlies and lates, Monday – Friday. The company operates shift patterns as set out below and reserves the right to allocate you to any pattern with reasonable notice. The hours vary by shift:

* a Shift (Earlies): 6 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday
* a Shift (Lates): 2 pm to 11 pm, Monday to Thursday
* b Shift (Earlies): 6 am to 2 pm, Monday to Thursday and 6 am to 12 pm on Friday
* b Shift (Lates): 2 pm to 12 am, Monday to Wednesday and 2 pm to 10 pm on Thursday

A five-day working week is in operation. Shift allowance is paid on the late shift.


What you’ll be doing

* Extracting, lifting a combination of lightweight and steel mandrels out of a curing oven and placing them in the relevant area of the factory. You will operate the extraction machine.
* Neatly filling in paperwork.
* Undertake manual handling.
* Learn all aspects of wrapping, forming resin-soaked cloths into various forms (e.g. tubes/laminate sheets) to be hardened in the oven. This involves mixing chemicals and working to SOPs with mandatory PPE and a high level of health & safety adherence.
* Perform machine shop and mold press operations.
* Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
* Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow safety regulations.
* Be willing to receive supervision and assistance with machine set-up and attainment scores.
* Attach labels and tags to products and packages.
* Notify supervisor of any mechanical or material issues.
* Place finished goods in the designated area.
* Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Daily targets will be set and must be adhered to during the 3-month probationary period.

Opportunities for development and training exist. This is a physically driven role with some repetitive duties; you must be able to lift up to 25 kg, and be able to bend and rotate your posture.


What We Need From You

To be successful in this role you must:

* Have a minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths & English (grade C/4 or above).
* The ability to work as part of a team and possess good written and verbal communication skills.
* Have previous experience and a proven track record of working in high volume manufacturing.

Along with the above education and experience, the following personal qualities make you an ideal candidate:

* Be reliable and have regular attendance with a positive can-do attitude.
* Not fazed by the faint smell of styrene or sticky materials such as resin.
* Have a personal value for health and safety.
* Have a strong work ethic, reliable, dependable and conscientious.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Work quickly but methodically with attention to detail.
* Strong time management skills.
* Ability to use initiative and work in a team environment.
* Good IT skills and experience in reading manufacturing or works orders (SOPs).
* Confident working with machinery in a fast-paced factory environment.
* Able to use your initiative and enjoy teamwork.
