We’re seeking an experienced or emerging AOD Clinician to join our kaupapa Māori organisation delivering therapeutic group programmes within Tongariro Prison.
In this role, you’ll use your clinical knowledge and cultural awareness to conduct comprehensive AOD assessments using DSM-5 for substance use disorder and RNR tools, develop rehabilitative plans, and facilitate group-based AOD programmes alongside other practitioners using structured modules provided.
This position is ideal for someone confident in working with tāne, aligned with kaupapa Māori values, and motivated to make a real impact within a custodial setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct DSM-5 (substance use disorder) and RNR-based AOD assessments
* Create individualised, strengths-based rehabilitative plans
* Facilitate group sessions using standardised programme modules
* Work collaboratively with co-facilitators, Corrections staff, and your Te Mauri team
* Complete clinical notes, assessments, and plans
* Maintain accurate documentation in Exess (Record Management Framework)
What You’ll Bring
* DAPAANZ registration or progress toward full APC (or equivalent under HPCA/SWRB)
* Experience in AOD services or a strong willingness to develop skills in this area
* Knowledge or willingness to learn DSM-5 for substance use disorder
* Confidence in group facilitation (some 1:1 may be required)
* Strong cultural competence and alignment with kaupapa Māori values
* Integrity, empathy, resilience, and professionalism
* Full NZ driver’s licence
* Ability to pass police vetting and meet Ara Poutama Aotearoa clearance requirements
