Aim: To provide pregnant women with risk factors for preterm labour and birth with high quality, safe midwifery care in the antenatal period. The care will be evidence based and holistic in meeting women's individual needs and the midwife will be expected to work autonomously within the guidelines and sphere of professional practice.
The post holder will act as a mentor and or preceptor as required.
The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the preterm birth service alongside the lead Consultant.
The post holder will, through audit and evaluation, ensure the provision of these services meets the needs of the service and local population.
The post holder will work towards delivery of the aims of the North East and North Cumbria regional preterm birth group
The post holder will represent Gateshead at regional preterm birth and other relevant meetings (for example, place of birth, PPSLN)
Act as the clinical expert and professional resource for patients their carers and the multi-professional team.
Main duties of the job
Ensure the delivery of the highest quality, clinical effective care, and patient experience, prioritising and utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice. Promote and lead the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development for staff within the speciality.
Have an understanding and insight into risk within the preterm birth service; attending case reviews, contributing to complaints and ensuring learning from any local, regional or national reports or cases is fed back into the service.
The post holder will be responsible, alongside the lead midwife for risk, for completing monthly audits of preterm births to ensure that all optimisation measures and the aims of the regional preterm pathway are embedded.

Job responsibilities
Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the area of preterm birth prevention and optimisation, leading the delivery of appropriate evidence based care, and advanced practice.
To be responsible for implementing national preterm birth recommendations, liaising with the lead midwife for risk, safety and quality regarding the implementation at a local level.
To provide quarterly reports to the lead midwife for risk, safety and quality.
Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.
Support, assist and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems, by the provision of new and innovative models of case management.
