Offer description

The role of the Field Engineer is to ensure works are delivered to contract standards through proactive site surveillance, timely reporting of non-conformances, and strong collaboration with site teams. The role involves reviewing contractor performance, verifying inspection records, and identifying quality issues before they impact progress. Mechanical engineering knowledge, welding proficiency, and familiarity with relevant industry standards are essential.

Key Responsibilities

* Check the works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notify the Construction Superintendent of non‑conformance request requirements.
* Submit details of any non‑conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non‑conformance reports.
* Proactively communicate with other site teams, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported, contributing surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
* Endeavour to identify potential quality issues before they arise to enable mitigating actions.
* Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate risks and keep works safe and within quality standards, following up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g., issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works.
* Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company's requirements for health, safety and environment.
* Develop and maintain an understanding of construction drawings, construction activities, quality control plans and quality inspection records.
* Ensure and monitor that quality inspection records are taken and agreed before works are covered up.

Qualifications

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

* A minimum of an HND in a Civil or Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent vocational training and experience.
* Nationally recognised NDT inspector (PCN Level 2 / Cofrend, ISO 9712 L2) – UT, RT, MT, PT, VT.
* Welding certification CSWIP 3.1 or IWI‑B.
* Knowledge of quality standards – ISO 9001 and ISO 19443.
* Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
* Experience with LQRS / NCRs.
* Reside locally in Bridgwater or be prepared to relocate; this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high‑level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g., EPR/nuclear new build).
