Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will assist lawyers in preparing for hearings, trials, and meetings, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and organised. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
* Conduct legal research and gather relevant information to support case preparation.
* Draft legal documents, including briefs, applications to court and correspondence.
* Draft client care letters and update letters
* Obtain and consider both prosecution and defence evidence
* Meet with clients and take accurate and detailed instructions
* Organise and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are filed correctly and accessible.
* Assist in the preparation of trial materials and exhibits.
* Communicate with clients, witnesses, and court personnel as needed.
* Liaise with the police, courts and CPS.
* Manage schedules for lawyers, including appointments and court dates.
* Utilise IT systems to maintain electronic records and databases efficiently.
* Perform administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and scanning documents.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a criminal defence paralegal
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office applications.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
* Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines consistently.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
* A keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in all documentation.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic setting.
* Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures in criminal proceedings
