Wood – Global leader in consulting and engineering – is currently recruiting for a Fabrication Shop Superintendent (contract). The role will involve working at various locations in the UK and Europe to support the Redcar site on an energy transition project.
The role will be based at the Wilton site in Teesside and will support the Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT).
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee off-site pipework and pipe support fabrication at an off-site facility.
* Promote HSSE awareness and ensure all HSSE and readiness requirements are implemented.
* Participate in daily/weekly HSSE reviews, inspections, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
* Conduct site safety audits and maintain compliance with industrial relations.
* Ensure fabrication meets specifications, drawings, codes and contract requirements.
* Develop method statements and risk assessments for hazardous activities.
* Coordinate with EPCm Contractor progress meetings and interface coordination meetings.
* Review submittals and technical documentation for fabrication proposals.
* Validate the EPCm Contractor project plan and constructability checklist.
* Build relationships between construction, HSSE and Quality teams.
* Review fabrication feasibility, method studies and hazard analysis; establish realistic schedules.
Technical Responsibilities
* Ensure weld specifications and welder records are in place before fabrication starts.
* Maintain clean workshops and certify lifting equipment and inspection devices.
* Co‑operate with Project Welding Engineer for NDE and quality assurance.
* Implement quality control, welding, material certification, dimension checks, PMI, PWHT, etc., following ITPs and documentation requirements.
* Oversee painting, finish applications and materials traceability.
* Carry out pressure testing and witness as per project quality plan.
* Manage release processes for non‑destructive examination, painting, and final release of fabricated materials.
* Ensure proper spool identification, cleaning, protection blanks, end caps, and surface protection before dispatch.
Qualifications
* HNC / NVQ Level 4 or equivalent.
* Extensive experience on UK brownfield Top Tier COMAH sites within a client or Principal Contractor team.
* Hands‑on experience of construction (incl. fabrication) planning, preparation, and execution.
* Practical expertise in constructability and hazard identification and management.
Desirable
* Piping apprenticeship preferred but not essential.
