SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary (Bolton)

Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester
Contract: Full‑time, long‑term
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Start Date: ASAP / ongoing

Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident, proactive, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary SEN school in the Bolton area. The school supports children with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), complex ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) and pupils with high‑level EHCPs who require consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with high and complex learning needs.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to provide nurturing, consistent, and personalised support to pupils. You will help create a safe, stimulating environment where every child can access learning, develop communication skills, and make progress at their own pace.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting pupils with PMLD, complex ASC and additional learning/medical needs, following individual EHCP targets.
Providing 1:1 and small‑group support, adapting activities to meet sensory, cognitive, and communication needs.
Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and changing, where required.
Using PECS, visual timetables, sensory strategies, and communication aids (training provided).
Supporting pupils during regulated and dysregulated behaviours, using de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies.
Helping to set up engaging learning resources and maintaining a safe, inclusive classroom environment.
Encouraging independence, emotional wellbeing, and confidence through consistent routine and positive relationships.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who is:

Confident and proactive, able to use initiative when supporting pupils with complex needs.
Patient, adaptable, and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.
Ideally experienced with PMLD, ASC, non‑verbal pupils, medical needs, or sensory‑based learning (desirable, not essential).
Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Willing to support with personal care and mobility needs.
Available full‑time and committed to a long‑term role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
