Job Description

We are looking for an experienced adviser to support the regulation of the energy sector, which accounts for 24% of UK greenhouse gas emissions. This fixed‑term role (up to 2 years) will support the Agency’s net‑zero strategy by providing regulatory expertise across combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical support, advice, guidance, and training to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Develop sector strategies and produce tools that enable regulation, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where required.
* Work with stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business‑continuity support during emergencies.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience working within or regulating the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
* Strong technical and regulatory knowledge, with demonstrated ability to advise on emission controls to air where relevant.
* Proven ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government agencies, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and to manage multiple priorities.
* Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Contract Details
* Contract: Fixed‑term, up to 2 years.
* Location: Birmingham (in‑person interviews) with travel where necessary.
* Interview Deadline: End of November (in‑person in Birmingham).
