Band 6 - Live kidney donor specialist nurse - 30 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, registered nurse with an interest in renal living kidney donation to join our rapidly expanding renal specialist team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, innovative care and supporting the development of this growing service. Candidates should have the ability to learn and develop quickly, and full support will be provided to help acquire the necessary skills for the role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standard of care for living kidney donors. They will oversee donor assessments within Dorset and Somerset, maintaining close collaboration with national transplant centres, and lead a consistent and integrated approach to patient care. The role requires excellent communication, organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills, along with experience and insight into change management and service development. The successful candidate must be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility in their approach to work; while there is currently no cross-site working, this may change as the service evolves. A clean driving licence is desirable, and the ability to work flexible hours to meet service requirements is essential.

Education, Qualificiations & Training


Essential criteria

* Registered Nurse
* Post registration renal qualification
* Teaching / assessor qualification
* Educated to degree level


Knowledge & Experience


Essential criteria

* Previous experience within the speciality
* Experience at senior staff nurse level.
* Advanced communication skills
* Proven teaching skills
* Excellent IT skills including spreadsheets and databases
* Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
* Ability to demonstrate up to date experience and depth of knowledge and clinical competence.


Desirable criteria

* An awareness of Trust Policies including renal NSF, clinical governance, data protection etc.
* Demonstrate ability and experience in change management/ clinical developments.
* Some knowledge of recent NHSBT strategies, legislation and recommendations

* Able to prioritise workload, achieving a balance between clinical and other aspects of the role.

* Recent experience within acute Renal setting and competent with dialysis skills
