We're looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our growing Engineering team at NPL. Reporting into the Principal Engineer, you will play a vital part in stretching our capability and taking our research to the next level. In this hybrid role, you will spend approximately 2–3 days a week on-site in Teddington, and 2–3 days working remotely. We value your work-life balance and are open to discussing flexible or part-time working arrangements to accommodate your needs.
As our Senior Electronics Engineer, you will provide specialist expertise in instrumentation and automation systems design, while being responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation and standards of products provided by NPL. Your work will have a tangible impact on our business and the UK as a whole. You will collaborate with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, celebrating the unique contributions everyone brings.
As a senior team member, you will supervise less experienced colleagues, sharing your knowledge and motivating them to improve. As an expert in your field, you will provide everyday design solution advice and offer consultancy services across the department as needed.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Identifying and assisting in capturing customer requirements
2. Designing automation, instrumentation, and safety systems and products
3. Transferring requirements into designs and specifications
4. Installing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning automation systems
5. Sourcing and testing instrumentation to prove suitability for applications
6. Preparing design risk assessments
7. Issuing electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
8. Managing and maintaining system documentation
9. Checking designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards
10. Working with suitable suppliers of equipment, services, and materials
Please note, this role is known internally as 'Senior Design Engineer'.

11. BSc degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering or equivalent experience

* Experience applying electrical safety standards (BS/EN 61010-1)
