We are recruiting full-time, temporary SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 11–19 in a specialist independent school in Wakefield. The school caters for students with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication and interaction needs, and associated social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
The setting provides a calm, structured and highly personalised learning environment where relationships, consistency and holistic development are central. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a nurturing environment focused on building independence, confidence and life skills.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with EHCPs
Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs
Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and social development
Promote independence and life skills throughout the school day
Help maintain a calm, purposeful and structured learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
Support behaviour positively using consistent strategies
This is a full-time, temporary role (term-time only) with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
We Are Looking For
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people with SEND (ASC, SEMH or complex needs)
A patient, resilient and calm approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to follow structured behaviour and learning plans
A genuine passion for inclusive education
Desirable:
Experience in specialist or alternative provision settings
Understanding of trauma-informed practice
Team Teach or positive handling training
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, TA qualification, Health & Social Care)
