Job description
About the role
As a Communications and Engagement Officer (Wales), you will play a vital role in increasing voter participation and ensuring that our work is communicated effectively to the people of Wales. Working with a wide range of community partners, you'll help reach under-registered groups including, young people, disabled people, ethnic minorities and those who are more transient.
On a day to day basis, you will.
* Build and maintain relationships with partners across Wales to deliver voter engagement projects and outreach activities
* Support the development and delivery of public facing initiative such as Welcome to You Vote Week, workshops, briefings and awareness campaigns
* Work with media and communications colleagues to produce social media and website content and other public communications in English and Welsh. (Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential)
* Develop good relationships with the press, handling press enquiries, drafting and issuing press releases and scoping opportunities for pro-active media engagement
* Represent the Commission at community events, seminars and partnership meetings
* Support monitoring and evaluation of projects to understand what works in engaging communities in the democratic process

About the team
You will part of the Wales Team, we are a friendly, supportive and collaborative team committed to making democratic participation accessible and engaging. You will be encouraged to share ideas, take ownership of projects and help us innovate how we reach communities in Wales.
The team works closely with colleagues across the UK including our communications, legislation and policy teams based in London. This cross team collaboration not only provides great exposure to a wide range of expertise and projects, but also creates excellent opportunities for development and career progression within the Commission
Person specification
Who we're looking for
We're looking for a confident, personable communicator who can build relationships, manage projects and adapt quickly in a varied role.
You'll be successful if you have:
* Expertise in communications, partnerships, media or community engagement roles
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write for a variety of audiences including the press, partners, members of the public and elected officials
* Experience of organising and presenting at outreach events, briefings or workshops.
* Stakeholder management experience, ideally working within diverse or under-represented groups
* Excellent organisational skills with an ability to work to tight timescales, manage competing deadlines and use initiative
Desirable experiences includes: social media work, project management and the ability to speak Welsh
