Summary
The main purpose of this role is to manage a team to achieve the delivery of switchgear, substation, and diversion projects on the UKPN framework contract, ensuring safety regulations, quality standards, and project specifications are met. The role reports to the Operations Manager / Senior Project Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Managing multiple/major projects from inception to completion, safely, competently, and within budget;
2. Overseeing all financial aspects of projects, including costing and invoicing for additional works;
3. Providing guidance to team members to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations;
4. Monitoring and reporting project progress to clients as required;
5. Ensuring team compliance with safety rules, procedures, method statements, and risk assessments;
6. Liaising with third parties for smooth project implementation;
7. Maintaining site safety and completing risk assessments;
8. Reporting SHE concerns to the SHE team;
9. Managing and reviewing staff performance and identifying training needs;
10. Conducting site safety and 1 in 10 inspections, ensuring remedial actions are taken;
11. Ensuring statutory records, certificates, licenses, and notices are in place;
12. Preparing project Safety, CDM plans, and Risk Assessments as part of the project plan.
Qualifications and experience we're looking for:
* Substantial project management experience;
* Knowledge of the DNO network – EPN UKPN;
* Knowledge of distribution substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, distribution boards);
* Experience with switchgear, substation, or asset replacement works;
* Understanding of project financials;
* Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and implications;
* CDM knowledge;
* NVQ / ONC / HNC or higher in a relevant subject;
* Safety qualifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS;
* NRSWA accreditation;
* Preferred: formal project management qualification and UKPN authorizations.
