Purpose of the Role: The building control department ensures that buildings are designed and constructed in accordance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation. It is the responsibility of those carrying out the work to ensure that the provisions of the regulations are fully met. The role of Building Control is to check that they do so and ensure that corrective actions are taken when compliance has not been achieved. The post holder falls into the requirement of having to be registered with the Building Safety Regulator as set out in Part 2A, Registration of Building Control Profession of the Building Act 1984. Specific reference is made to Section 58A to 58M which relate to the registration of Building Inspectors. Make decisions on those assessments as per the restricted role in line with the Building Safety regulator competence framework the Council’s jurisdiction and as part of any partnering or similar scheme, ensuring buildings comply with the relevant regulatory standards in terms of health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility and design.
