We are looking for a full‑time Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Highfield Unit. You will support our multidisciplinary team by assessing, treating and evaluating referred patients to enable continuity of care. The role includes carrying out assessment directly for children and young people with the support of the team, and supporting the team to consider the needs of children and young people in the pathway and promote a stronger understanding of occupational therapy in this space.
You will work within a friendly, supportive and well‑established multi‑professional team. You will receive quality reflective supervision, use your skills to deliver high‑quality assessments and influence service improvements, and have opportunities to grow in your career and continue professional development. You will play a vital role in helping the system understand the complete identity of the young person, including neurodivergence, mental health and developmental profile.
Main duties of the job
* Develop and provide a quality, needs‑led Occupational Therapy service as part of the multidisciplinary team for the Highfield Unit.
* Provide an Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation process for referred patients in collaboration with professional colleagues and clinical services, to enable continuity of care.
* Take a leading role in the development of Occupational Therapy services or specialist programmes for young people with mental health problems.
* Deliver the post flexibly, with some evening and weekend work included.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Evidence of CPD maintained within a portfolio
* Member of the RCOT
Desirable criteria
* Experience at Band 6 level
* Specialty specific postgraduate courses
* Member of RCOT Special Interest Groups
* MSc / postgraduate diploma
Experience and skills – Essential criteria
* Postgraduate experience including a range of clinical placements within the NHS
* Experience managing and prioritising a caseload
* Able to act independently and on own initiative, but recognise when to seek support
* Demonstrates well‑established knowledge of legislation, national policies and procedures relevant to children and young people
* Supervision experience of students, unqualified and/or qualified staff
* Excellent communication skills in pressurised and stressful environments
* Well‑established knowledge of a range of specialist Occupational Therapy assessments
* Competent IT skills for use of electronic health records and ability to adapt to new developments
Experience and skills – Desirable criteria
* Involvement in audit or research
* Experience working with young people with ASD and knowledge of sensory integration assessments
* Experience of clinical governance

* Excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of self‑directed learning / reflective practice
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, motivational and enthusiastic
* Excellent organisational skills including good time management
* Effective communication, particularly where barriers to understanding exist
* Ability to manage emotional consequences of working with patients with a range of communication disorders
* Demonstrates adequate flexibility to meet the demands of an unpredictable workload
