About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Elgin 1 Factory as a Quality Controller on our Backshift. The hours of this role are Monday to Thursday 14h15 to 20h30 and Friday 12h15 to 18h30. This is a key position pivotal to our product's success.
Main Tasks
* Regular sample checks of finished products to determine conformance to standard – target ½ hourly.
* Checking appearance, weight, sealing, date marking, coding, case packing, pallet loading etc.
* Products which are substandard should be quarantined on the authority of the Quality Inspector.
* On an ongoing basis liaise closely with production Chargehands where appropriate about quality matters, especially regarding faulty product rectification and disposal. In serious cases, production and quality management to be involved.
* When appropriate, or as directed, supervise and possibly actively assist in recovery or disposal of sub‑standard products or returned goods.
* Every hour during production, check correct operation of metal detectors, as defined in Metal Detector Policy Statements.
* Highlight any foreign matter found in plant – act as receiving point for any item found by staff. In case of product contamination, follow set procedures where this exist. Otherwise isolate any suspect materials, products etc. and involve Quality Assurance Department and Factory Manager. This is a critical area, and immediate potential problem identification is essential to avoid risk of more serious problems.
* Daily, receive production plan details from Factory Manager, list appropriate date marking /coding/price details/sticker label requirements and where appropriate show packing details etc. for use by Chargehands prior to production.
* Obtain samples of products for customer requirements, long term storage, etc. as per work instructions. As required other samples may be necessary.
* Hygiene support to Chargehands, Supervisors, Managers.
Responsibilities
* Holders of this job are not under close supervision, and are required to make immediate decisions based on findings.
* Involve intervention to hold suspect products, and decisions as to disposal.
* When serious problems are identified, there is a responsibility to involve senior management to prevent dispatch of faulty products.
* Responsible for ensuring content of work instructions are correct, advising of necessary adjustments or providing information to create new work instructions as appropriate.
* Confirm receipt of finished product specifications, export data sheets, quality reference documents, deviations etc. by signing appropriate issue notification form and passing it to QA department.
