Main duties of the job

The Welsh Ambulance Service is currently looking to employ a Senior Mental Health Professional (band 7) to deliver high-quality care for people who call 999 in crisis.

Reporting to the Clinical Support Desk Manager, You will be required to working independently and autonomously. You will have recent experience as Band 6 (or above) nurse or social worker with the ability to effectively manage the day to day operational and professional issues within an emergency, unscheduled care, and telephone triage setting.

You must have excellent organisational and leadership skills, have experience delivering small scale improvement projects, effectively communicate at all levels, problem-solve under pressure, and be flexible approach to work and adaptable. With the ability to inspire others, you will also demonstrate you are forward-thinking, imaginative and have a collaborative approach to your work.

An induction program will be offered depending on experience, mainly within office hours (including telephone triage training) and may include travelling to alternative sites.

This role may involve some weekends, bank holidays, and other unsocial hours.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience


Essential criteria

* Clinician Registered with a Regulatory Body (NMC/HCPC/Social Work/Occupational Therapist)
* Specialist knowledge of mental health conditions, their impact and treatment to Post-graduate Level achieved through formal qualifications and/or post registration clinical experience as a practitioner within a mental health field.
* Specialist levels of applied knowledge related to mental health care, e.g. physical health care, substance misuse, perinatal.
* Demonstrable post registration experience as a practitioner working with people experiencing mental health crisis.
* Knowledge of CAMHS issues and developments in a local and national context.
* ILM Level 4 in Leadership and Management or equivalent experience of providing Line Management/Clinical Supervision to Clinicians
* Evidence of undertaking regular update training and continuous personal/professional development as required by regulating body.
* Knowledge of current issues in the NHS especially drivers relating to integration of emergency and urgent mental health care
* In depth knowledge of MHA, MCA and other legal frameworks involved in delivering mental health care.


Desirable criteria

* In possession of or willingness to undertake level 6/7 education aligned to role objectives (clinical leadership) within an agreed timeframe
* Knowledge and understanding of current health and social care agenda
* Bronze and Silver IQT (Improving Quality Together) and evidence of leadership of a QI project to completion
* Enhanced assessment skill qualification
* Psycho-social intervention qualification
* Motivational interviewing qualification
* Experience in clinical audit.
* Approved mental health professional
* Previous experience working within 111/999 telephone settings (or similar), demonstrating a high degree of skill in remote patient assessment.
