The Role
MJ Church is delivering a range of earthworks and civil engineering projects across the region, with a strong order book for 2025/2026 and a promising pipeline of future opportunities. We are seeking an experienced
Quantity Surveyor
to join our team and play a key role in managing projects from tender handover to final account. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of clients under different contract forms, including NEC, ICC, and bespoke subcontracts.
Reporting to the Divisional Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the post-contract commercial management of schemes valued up to £15m. Your expertise will ensure effective cost management, procurement, and contract administration, contributing to the successful delivery of our projects.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare and agree applications for payment across multiple projects.
* Ensure accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and budget comparisons.
* Manage the supply chain, including procurement, subcontractor documentation, and performance reviews.
* Identify and value changes such as Compensation Events (CEs), Variations (VOs), Claims, and Extensions of Time (EOT).
* Capture costs, manage accruals, and oversee subcontract liabilities.
* Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and site teams, attending meetings as required.
* Provide contractual advice and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with company processes and proactively develop your professional skills.
Who you are
We are looking for a detail-oriented and commercially aware professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You will have experience working on earthworks or civil engineering projects and be able to build strong relationships with stakeholders while working collaboratively within a team. * Minimum of 5 years' post-graduate experience with a relevant HNC or degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
* Experience in subcontracting or contracting within the civil engineering, groundworks, or earthworks sector.
* CSCS Card Holder.
* Good knowledge of the highways and civil engineering sector.
* Membership of a relevant professional institute, with Chartered status or working towards it.
* Based in the South of England, with the flexibility to work on projects across Hampshire, Berkshire and surrounding area.
