Overview
Tradebe Inutec is seeking a Health Physics Surveyor to join our team in Winfrith, Dorset.
This role involves providing health physics monitoring support to ensure radiological safety, collaborating closely with operations teams and analytical projects to offer radiological advice and assist in project delivery.
The role
Responsibilities include conducting routine health physics monitoring to comply with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016, such as:
* Completing radiation and contamination surveys according to scheduled plans and pre/post operations.
* Supporting operational, analytical, maintenance, and project management teams with health physics guidance.
* Assisting the Radioactive Disposals, Accountancy and Transport (RDAT) team to ensure transport packages and vehicles comply with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009.
* Performing air sampling and calculating airborne contamination levels.
* Setting up and declassifying radiological supervised and controlled areas.
* Monitoring items outside controlled contamination zones.
* Supporting the sentencing of out-of-scope and exempt wastes.
* Assisting in decontamination processes as needed.
* Leak testing radioactive sources as scheduled.
* Conducting environmental monitoring, including discharge sampling.
* Maintaining health physics records, logs, and survey reports.
* Training staff in radiological best practices, site standards, and expectations.
* Providing radiological support during emergencies and exercises, including on-call support.
* Managing the radiation monitoring equipment to ensure availability of calibrated instruments.
* Supporting site personal dose assessments, including outside workers.
The person
* Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Radiation Protection or City and Guilds Stage 1 in Radiation Safety Practice.
* Experience in active plant operations and monitoring techniques.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Computer literacy.
* Self-motivated and proactive.
* Ability to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment.
