Responsibilities

* Work as a trainee NM Radiographer performing a range of isotope examinations.
* Complete a Pg Diploma in Nuclear Medicine with an affiliated university course.
* Complete in‑house competencies and training.
* Always provide a high standard of care to patients and relatives.
* Be responsible for professional leadership and the education, training and development of self and others.
* Work across professional and organisational boundaries to improve patient outcomes.
* Undertake all duties associated with the provision of a modern isotope imaging service, always providing a high standard of care.
* Participate in the supervision and training of student radiographers and isotope imaging trainees.
* Maintain good communication between the post holder and the department regarding any changes.
* Perform a wide variety of specialised isotope imaging procedures and examinations as service needs require.
* Deal with high‑pressure demands from service users, ensuring patient care is not compromised.
* Work as part of a team in isotope imaging within the Trust, while also working autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.
* Provide a full range of clinical examinations within the department, ensuring high standards of practice and being responsible for the quality of own work and that of Band 5 trainees and student radiographers under supervision where applicable.
* Plan and undertake all duties required in the provision of the radiographic service within a specialised (modality) working environment.
* Ensure high‑quality images are produced for all ranges of patients, adapting techniques to accommodate physical, mental and clinical needs.
* Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council and work within HCPC professional code of conduct and standards of proficiency.
* Work within the Trust’s policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to departmental protocols.
* Practice in accordance with the legislation governing the use of ionising radiation for medical purposes, including implementing Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R).
* Work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures to ensure the safe accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste in accordance with the Environment Agency regulations.
* Adhere to departmental safety guidelines, ensuring patient and staff safety, and perform pre‑examination patient checks.
* Diffuse potentially aggressive situations involving patients, relatives or carers effectively, and utilise personal safety alarms if necessary.
* Deal with verbal complaints efficiently and effectively, completing all documentation.
* Communicate effectively with patients of all age ranges, gaining positive identification and cooperation as required by IR(ME)R 2017.
* Communicate with all grades of staff and clinicians to ensure an efficient service and compliance with IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations.
* Collaborate with the modality service/team leader to manage/coordinate the day‑to‑day workload of the modality area.
* Prioritise workflow to meet patient needs, liaising effectively with other team members, wards, departments and clinical colleagues across the Trust.
* Be responsible for the accurate completion of all records, including the appropriate sections of all care pathways in which they are involved.
* Utilise clinical skills to recognise and act upon emergency situations, e.g., cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, adverse reactions to medication.
* Participate in extended hours service within the specialist area.
* Utilise IT skills to input data onto the Radiology Information System, paying attention to confidentiality, and use the Electronic Patient Record and the Hospital PACS System.
* Perform effective cleaning and disinfection of radiographic equipment and ancillary equipment in line with the Trust’s Infection Control Policy and IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations.
* Undertake and record a range of relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
* Report all incidents, clinical or non‑clinical, via the standard reporting mechanism, escalating to Service Leads where appropriate.
* Maintain awareness of current trends in professional matters within the field of practice.
* Supervise, support and teach student radiographers on clinical placement and mentor newly qualified radiographers joining the team.
* Take any other duties requested by senior staff.


Qualifications

* Successful completion of a Pg Dip or equivalent in nuclear medicine (or equivalent speciality).
* Completion of in‑house training competencies.
* Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council (HCPC).
