My client is looking for a Tax Manager with a strong grounding in VAT and indirect tax who is ready to broaden their experience across the full spectrum of taxes. While your primary focus will be on indirect tax, you'll also take on corporate and employment tax responsibilities, ensuring the Group remains fully compliant and well positioned from a tax perspective.
This role offers high visibility, you'll be working closely with senior leadership, advising on tax implications for business decisions, and mentoring a developing team member.
What You'll Be Doing
* Take ownership of the Group's VAT compliance, reporting, and controls, using technology to drive accuracy and insight.
* Oversee the preparation and review of VAT returns and ensure timely, accurate payments.
* Act as the subject matter expert for indirect tax, advising colleagues across the business on VAT implications of projects, transactions, and commercial arrangements.
* Support on wider tax compliance including corporation tax and employment taxes — prior direct tax experience is not essential, but willingness to take this on is key.
* Contribute to corporate tax reporting, including statutory disclosures, tax provisioning, and deferred tax calculations.
* Maintain and enhance processes to ensure the Group meets Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) requirements.
* Manage and update the Group Finance & Tax Manual, keeping reporting standards clear and consistent.
* Liaise with external advisors to support compliance and technical work across all taxes.
* Review capital expenditure and R&D projects to maximise tax reliefs.
* Coach and support a junior colleague, helping them to grow their tax expertise.
About You
* Professionally qualified (CTA, ACA, or equivalent), with a strong VAT/indirect tax background.
* Keen to broaden into direct tax and employment tax responsibilities.
* Solid experience of managing tax compliance and reporting, ideally in a multi-entity or growing business.
* Comfortable interpreting and applying complex tax rules, with the ability to simplify them for non-tax colleagues.
* Commercially aware - you link tax to business performance, risk management, and growth.
* Skilled with Excel and open to using tax technology tools for reporting and analysis.
* Organised, detail-focused, and proactive in identifying improvements.
* Confident communicator who can influence and advise stakeholders at all levels.
