Economist Degree Apprenticeship Programme 2026
Ready to tackle the big questions that shape our country's future?
The Government Economic Service Degree Apprenticeship Programme (GESDAP) is your chance to dive straight into meaningful work whilst studying for a fee-free economics degree.
As the UK's first economics degree apprenticeship, this scheme offers something truly special: the opportunity to work on issues that really matter – from helping UK businesses thrive in a competitive global market, to supporting people to rebuild their lives after prison, to protecting our environment for future generations.
Our track record speaks for itself – 97% of our recent graduating cohort achieved a 2:1 degree or above. This isn't just about getting a qualification; it's about launching a career where your work has genuine impact on millions of people's lives.
Apprenticeships are offered across England. Typically, our apprentices spend 4 days per week working in their government department, and 1 day studying online with the University of Kent.
Our apprentices benefit from:
* A fee-free economics degree from The University of Kent
* A paid government role
* Opportunities across England
* Meaningful work that makes a difference to society
* An inclusive and diverse working environment
* A permanent government role upon successful completion
If you successfully complete the apprenticeship, you will have an economics degree (with no tuition fees to pay back), four years’ work experience in the Civil Service, and a guaranteed permanent government role. This sets you up to build a brilliant career as an economist.
Please refer to the full eligibility criteria on the application webpage.
"The subject is interesting and engaging, it's a privilege to be doing work that I enjoy whilst also knowing that I can support decision making which will have a real positive impact on society and people's lives." - Government Economic Service Apprentice, 2024
