Salary : £37,538.00 Job Description: Job Title: Electrical Systems Engineer Reports to: Assistant Repairs & Maintenance Manager (Electrical) Department: Property Safety Location: Sunderland We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a skilled Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Property Safety team. You’ll play a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality services across the City of Sunderland, ensuring our customers receive the best experience every time. About the role You’ll carry out installations, repairs, and maintenance on systems including Intruder Alarms, Door Entry/Access Control, Fire Alarms, and minor electrical works such as heating controls and BMS panels. You’ll also complete inspections and remedial lighting repairs in non-domestic buildings, ensuring compliance with British Standards and IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition). We ask that you adopt a flexible approach to meet the business's needs, including working out-of-hours on a rota basis as required. We support a great work-life balance at Gentoo. You will work a standard 36-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Fridays. We are also proud to be certified as a “Great Place To Work”. A full UK driving licence and a basic DBS check (arranged and funded by Gentoo) are required for this role. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including Intruder Alarms, Door Entry/Access Control equipment, Fire Alarm Systems, and minor electrical works such as heating controls and BMS panels. Conduct inspections and remedial lighting repairs in non-domestic buildings, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Complete all electronic certification accurately and promptly, in line with British Standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with the latest IET Wiring Regulations (currently 18th Edition) and Gentoo Group standards in all work undertaken. Diagnose and resolve faults efficiently, using specialist software and tools to maintain system integrity and performance. Collaborate with managers and colleagues, providing clear updates on job status and ensuring smooth communication across teams. Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time spent, supporting transparency and accountability. Participate in the emergency out-of-hours service on a rota basis, responding promptly to urgent issues to keep customers safe. Champion health and safety practices, ensuring all work environments are safe for customers, colleagues, and contractors. Deliver exceptional customer service, treating every interaction with professionalism and empathy to uphold Gentoo’s values. What you’ll bring A full UK driving licence. NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline and AM2 practical trade test qualification. Proven competence in electrical installations, repairs, maintenance, and testing across domestic and commercial environments. Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, Codes of Practice, and industry standards. Customer-focused mindset, with excellent communication skills to build trust and deliver outstanding service. Technical proficiency, including the ability to interrogate specialist software using a laptop and interpret security system drawings and specifications. Hands-on experience with Intruder Alarm systems, Fire Alarm systems, and door access control/intercom systems. Problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose faults quickly and implement effective solutions. Attention to detail, ensuring all work meets regulatory and company standards.
