PURPOSE OF JOB: The Polymer Laboratory Supervisor manages daily lab operations through direct line management of the laboratory technicians. They also take the lead on polymer development, creating new formulations, and developing new polymer grades, to meet customer needs and support future business opportunities. They will collaborate with various departments, understand Axion Polymers processes, and contribute to business decisions. They also manage additive pricing. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Laboratory Management: Oversee daily operations, ensure timely completion of analysis tasks and generation of data, and maintain laboratory procedures Quality Control: Ensure test results are produced to the highest standards, lead internal and external audits, and develop monthly KPIs/Reports. Health and Safety: Maintain compliance by following Risk Assessments and SOPs, and report issues on the Assure system. Staff Supervision: Manage attendance, conduct appraisals, and supervise laboratory staff for various testing and validation tasks. Equipment and Supplies: Ensure equipment is calibrated to the necessary standards, purchase supplies, and manage stock pertaining to laboratory functions and polymer development. Testing and Analysis: Conduct internal testing of polymer compounds using various methods (MFI, ash content, tensile, FTIR, etc.). Documentation: Issue COAs and COCs, handle MSDS requests, and accurately input QC results. Customer Support : Investigate customer complaints and support project work and process trials. Assist on customer site visits, if applicable, and support the company on exhibitions. Innovation: Develop new grades of polymer by creating new formulations and managing additives cost and performance. Stakeholder Engagement: Show customers around the lab, explain procedures, and address quality concerns. Excel in demonstrating and explaining processes to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring they understand and trust our quality standards. SCOPE OF JOB: Ensure the laboratory operates safely and efficiently, meeting customer needs and supporting commercial teams and project engineers in optimising operations and developing new polymers. Full training will be provided in the Axion procedures and equipment used. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES. Check monthly water meter readings. Ensure correct calibration and upkeep of internal laboratory scales. Test lab batches and record results. Manage QC instructions and re-testing for failed batches. Measure moisture levels daily on the infeed using a Moisture Analyser. Use the sieve tower to check the plastic sizes of the infeed. Perform sink and float tests on the infeed. Hand sort various samples and MAP08 infeed. Use IoSys to check polymer content. Any other reasonable requests from the Site Manager and Production Manager.
