Job Summary
NHS Blood and Transplant is an integral part of the NHS. It saves thousands of lives by collecting over 2.5 million donations of blood and blood products every year. It also delivers a range of Tissue Grafts for use in replacement surgery.
You will be an integral part of the Eye Bank team, processing blood and retrieved tissues into clinical standard grafts following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), for use in transplant surgeries and eyedrop treatment.

We’re looking for someone who is educated to A level (science) standard or has equivalent knowledge of science or healthcare work, literate, numerate and able to assume the responsibilities of working in clean room environment. A willingness to partake in the specialised training that this role requires is essential.
Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities will include:
1. You will be required to support and assist in the work of the Eye Bank under supervision, performing a range of routine tasks.
2. You will ensure the efficient functioning of all aspects of tissue processing, storage and issuing to the required quality standards using laboratory equipment.
3. You will assist in developing the service in anticipation of future clinical needs.
4. You will be required to update production records written and/or electronic, to take receipt of, and account for, incoming tissues and materials.
5. You will be able to lift and carry items up to a weight of 15kgs, with and without the use of mechanical aids.
6. You will be required to process corneas, sclera and serum eyedrops.
7. Duties will include maintenance and environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and associated laboratory areas, and housekeeping activities will be required.

8. Experience of applying basic keyboard skills in a work environment.
Qualifications and Training
9. ‘A’ Level qualification in a science subject; NVQ Level 3 or similar qualifications Or Equivalent knowledge of science or health care work at a basic level, acquired through formal training and experience.
