GIS Developer
We are looking for a Python Developer with strong GIS experience to join our growing client solutions team at Verisk Maplecroft. The role involves using technology to create, collate, and deliver data analytics and intelligence in a geospatial context. We primarily use Python/Django with an Angular front‑end and operate on AWS. The successful candidate will help build cloud‑based workflows, pipelines, features, and tools that provide our clients the data insights needed to make sustainable decisions.
Responsibilities
* Work in an agile team, assisting in requirements gathering, refinement, and delivery of continual improvements to mapping solutions and GIS data pipelines.
* Support and collaborate with contractors to ensure effective teamwork and consistency of approach.
* Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members on technical projects.
* Deliver high‑quality, maintainable, well‑tested code that meets user requirements.
* Review other developers’ work comprehensively and constructively.
* Identify and drive opportunities to improve code quality, development processes, and team satisfaction.
* Provide mentoring to junior team members.
Qualifications
* Strong Python development experience, following PEP8 standards.
* Experience developing GIS pipelines in Python using libraries such as Fiona, Shapely, Numpy, Rasterio, and GDAL.
* Proficiency in object‑oriented programming, unit and integration testing, relational databases, and web architecture.
* Understanding of geoservers, spatial projections, raster and vector manipulation within Python.
* Experience with AWS and data management tools, including data lakes, warehouses, ETL, and PostgreSQL.
* Ability to design and implement data pipelines and solutions, ideally in a cloud environment.
* Excellent documentation skills covering database design, application design, and changes.
* Strong understanding of performance and scalability implications in development.
* Knowledge of the full software development life cycle and basic security concepts such as authentication, secret, and key management.
* Ability to review code and provide clear feedback.
* Experience collaborating with Business Intelligence teams, Data Scientists, Analysts, and PMs to deliver scalable Big Data & Analytics ecosystems.
* Demonstrated adaptability to rapidly changing technology.
* Capability to evaluate multiple solutions and choose the best based on a rational, fact‑based approach.
