About the Company
We are a long-established, specialist engineering and manufacturing business supplying precision components to a diverse set of industries, including packaging, converting, and print. As we enter an exciting phase of growth under new ownership and forward-thinking leadership, the company is investing in modernising systems, strengthening operations, and building a resilient team to support scaling up. With a focus on quality, reliability, and customer service, we are creating a more streamlined, collaborative, and future-fit organisation that will be ready to scale-up.
With plans to grow the business by 3x or more, this is an exciting time to join our team. We are creating a streamlined, customer-focused sales function at the centre of our growth strategy.
About the Role
This is a newly created role, central to how we modernise and grow. The Sales Manager will:
· Coordinate, manage and support our commission-based sales agents across the UK, ensuring leads are followed through and opportunities maximised.
· Take ownership of the technical quotation process, moving it from spreadsheets and inboxes into a structured, efficient system that will be part of our ERP system.
· Personally manage the relationship with our top 20 customers by revenue and local customers. Build on these relationships and grow our share of wallet.
· Embed quoting and customer data management within the integrated CRM, maintaining clear customer records.
· Support the implementation and running of a (new) ERP platform.
· Conduct marketing research to find new potential customers in our current and adjacent markets and new geographies.
· Closely engage with and transparently communicate with the engineering, manufacturing, administration and finance function within the business.
This is a hands-on position, ideal for someone with strong sales administration and, ideally, technical product experience in a manufacturing environment and who is motivated by the challenge of helping to professionalise and scale a precision engineering business. The role also offers the potential to join the leadership team of the business as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
· Process and manage all customer enquiries and quotations, ensuring accuracy, speed, and professionalism.
· Support the development and implementation of quotation automation (based on a to be developed "quotation decision tree") to streamline repeatable enquiries.
· Give input into ERP design and take a lead role in daily use once implemented.
· Maintain clear and up-to-date customer records and reporting within a CRM system (part of the ERP system to be installed).
· Build strong relationships with key accounts, including travel to customer sites (full UK driving licence required).
· Manage, support and coordinate commission-only sales representatives, setting weekly and monthly targets.
· Report on sales pipeline, quotation turnaround, and revenue opportunities, feeding into the Key Performance Indicators of the business reviewed in management meetings.
Skills & Experience
· At least 3 years in a technical sales administration, estimating, or customer service role within a manufacturing or engineering environment, dealing with physical products.
· Ability to fully focus on customer service, while understanding the restrictions of a manufacturer.
· Strong organisational and analytical skills; comfortable with data and process improvement.
· Competence in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and familiarity with ERP as well as CRM systems (experience of implementation is a plus).
· Ability to use read engineering drawings and use hand measuring tools on customer site to measure up existing components.
· Knowledge of precision engineering machining techniques and technologies.
· Ideally experience in Autodesk suite.
· Clear, professional written and spoken communication skills.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
Personal Qualities
· Confident and professional, able to represent Precision Products with customers and agents.
· Motivated by building systems and processes and pushing the boundaries of how we work rather than just maintaining the status quo.
· Comfortable working in a fast-changing, growth-focused environment.
· Self-starter, driven, and an absolute team player.
