Purpose of PositionThe role is based at our existing Hub site in Hinckley however travel to our other sites located in Hinckley and the West Midlands is an essential part of this role As a Technical Trainer you are responsible for carrying out all technical training with VMU technicians and staff, with regards to vehicles and trailers on fleet. Ensuring that all VMU staff are fully trained in the effective repair and maintenance of the Linehaul Fleet as well as VMU operations.Key Tasks/Areas of ResponsibilityDirecting Quality Assurance:To oversee the quality assurance of all HGV maintenance, both internally through the Company’s VMUs and through external repairs. Ensuring all work and associated paperwork conform to the DVSA’s Guide To Maintaining Roadworthiness whilst defining quality standards for technical work, reviewing quality audit reports, and implementing continuous improvement processes.Managing Technical Support/Escalation:To lead complex problem resolution, ensuring a clear and efficient escalation process, by liaising with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure any issues are resolved in a timely manner and fully conform to all legal requirements (e.g. GSRII)Workshop Compliance and Risk Management:To oversee the VMU Co-ordinator to guarantee the efficient scheduling, maintenance, and calibration of all workshop assets. Confirm that all workshop engineers possess the necessary certification and training. Manage the administration of technical bulletins, toolbox talks and training. Ensure all workshops maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and successfully pass all internal audits. Maintain Daimler customer-owned workshop standards and administer Daimler warranty claims.Technical Strategy Expertise and Standards: To act as the subject matter expert to provide guidance on technical issues across the VMUs. Developing technical strategies and setting goals that align the team’s work, especially Quality assurance and VMU efficiency, with broader business objectives.Nationwide Network Support and OversightAs part of the external MOT fail process, or from escalation by Fleet Services or the Regional Fleet Management team, to visit external Maintenance Contractors across the country to ensure the standards required by the Company’s Operator Licence undertakings are being met. Where the standards are not being met which could impact the Company, to escalate appropriately and then take appropriate mitigating action. Project and Operations Oversight:To ensure technical projects are delivered to the required quality standards. Managing the budget for technical resources, software, and hardware. To take ownership of large scale projects as required by the Head of HGV e.g. reviewing of the companies PHV trailer suspension design to reduce the likelihood of bridge strikes.Stakeholder Communication:Through the management of the HGV Technical Inspector, to manage the technical training for all internal technicians (e.g. both local toolbox talks and nationally recognised IRTEC accreditation) as well as training for non-technical staff on HGV maintenance matters (e.g. Nominated transport Managers) Stakeholder Communication:To serve as the liaison between the technical teams and other departments, clearly communicating the status of technical issues, compliance matters, and quality metrics to non-technical stakeholders. To support other non-technical members of the HGV department e.g. the Regional Fleet Management team and HGV Training department as well as the wider business e.g. Transport and the Network. Qualifications: Ideally you will have had experience in overseing the quality assurance in a HGV Maintenance unitA high standard of computer literacy with a thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office SuiteExperience in asset Management. Training and compliance across a Vehicle Maintenance UnitThe Ability to analyse, interpret data and trends along with the ability to drive change to improve workflowsExperience of Workshop Compliance and Risk ManagementExcellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.Be able to work successfully using high level of initiativeDemonstrate the core DPD DNA values of Passion, Respect, Honesty, Flexibility, Caring and Accountability.
