What will the role involve?
* A day in the life of a Local Democracy Reporter looks like this
* You’ll be covering the key activities of Coventry council as well as political and social issues affecting these communities
* Ensuring timely coverage of council meetings and key decisions
* Building contacts, understanding key issues, writing features, and breaking exclusives, with potential exposure on BBC Homepage
Qualifications
* You are an NCTJ (or equivalent) qualified journalist, ideally with 100wpm shorthand skills (or currently working towards this), with an understanding and interest in Coventry communities
* Previous experience reporting on local government/councils is highly desirable
* You can extract stories from local council meetings that engage readers
* Good knowledge of social media to drive audience engagement is an advantage
* Interest and working knowledge of local council and government operations
* Desire to hold politicians accountable and ensure community voices are heard
