This is a highly autonomous role acting as the technical escalation point for electrical, electronic and controls issues across a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing site. Senior Maintenance Engineer Role Overview As the site’s go-to specialist for more complex electrical and control system issues, you’ll support the engineering teams with breakdowns, fault-finding and improvement work across a range of machinery - from legacy kit to modern automated systems. This isn’t a full programming role, but you will regularly modify, tweak and adjust PLCs and drives, while also delivering small automation projects such as panel rewires, upgrades and system improvements. It’s an excellent opportunity for a strong Electrical Engineer looking to step up, or a Controls Engineer wanting a more hands-on, varied role. Key Responsibilities for the Senior Maintenance Engineer Act as the escalation point for electrical, electronic and controls faults. Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues across drives, sensors, PLCs and control systems. Modify and adjust PLC programs (no need for programming from scratch). Support regular breakdowns, focusing on deeper-root cause issues. Deliver small automation projects including panel rewires and upgrades. Contribute to larger site upgrades, such as PLC migrations (e.g., S5 → S7). Carry out obsolescence reviews and implement component upgrades. Work across corrugator and converting machinery on a busy packaging site. Collaborate with internal teams and OEMs, taking full ownership of technical decisions. Provide guidance to engineers as an escalation point, delegating tasks where needed.Qualifications & Experience Ideally 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong background in electrical, electronic or controls engineering. Proven fault-finding capability on live production equipment. Experience working with PLCs - able to modify and adjust programmes. Familiarity with both legacy and modern control systems. Qualifications are beneficial but not essential - experience and mindset matter most. Comfortable working independently with high levels of technical responsibility.Personal Attributes Proactive, hands-on and technically curious.
