Inventory and Production Controller Reporting to : Operations Manager Location : Clows Top, Worcestershire Job Purpose: We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Inventory and Production Controller, preferably, with experience in the timber industry to take ownership of stock movement, production material control, and systems implementation across our M&M Timber site. This role ensures accurate stock control, efficient material flow and integration of digital tools such as barcoding, scanning and ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, IVY). Key responsibilities include the creation, maintenance and review of Bills of Materials (BOMs). Support for cost input data and active management of obsolete and slow-moving inventory to reduce waste and improve space and working capital efficiency. Responsibilities: Inventory Control and Stock Movement Oversee all stock movements: goods in, internal transfers, production usage and dispatch. Ensuring accuracy and traceability. Maintain up-to-date inventory records through regular cycle counts and reconciliations (P.I count) Manage timber storage across the warehouse and yard, complying with certification and safety standards (e.g., FSC, PEFC). Monitor and report on obsolete, surplus and slow-moving inventory; implement strategies for reduction, reallocation, or disposal. Production Coordination Manage the timely and accurate issue and return of timber materials to and from production. Track usage and yield across manufacturing processes to inform planning and reduce waste. Coordinate closely with production to ensure material availability aligns with schedules and BOMs. Bill of Materials (BOM) Management Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for all products, including standard and custom builds. Regularly review and update BOMs to reflect changes in materials, production methods and cost inputs. Ensure BOM accuracy supports planning, procurement and cost management. Costing Support Provide supporting cost data to sales and estimating teams, including material and labour values based on BOMs and ERP records. Assist in evaluating estimated vs. actual cost variances for continuous improvement. ERP and Systems Implementation Lead implementation and continuous improvement of works order scanning, barcoding and labelling systems. Ensure accurate and timely data entry and material tracking through ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, IVY) or similar. Collaborate with internal teams to optimise ERP workflows and provide training on systems and procedures. Warehouse and Timber Yard Layout Management Design and maintain effective layouts for internal storage and external timber yards to support efficient stock flow and safety compliance. Implement clear zoning and labelling for product categories. Continuously review space utilisation and material flow patterns for improvement opportunities. Reporting and Analysis Generate reports on inventory levels, movements, production material usage and BOM performance. Monitor and report KPIs such as stock accuracy, yield efficiency, obsolete stock value and slow-moving stock turnover. Use data insights to support planning, procurement and operational efficiency improvements. Requirements Proven experience in inventory or production control within the timber, joinery, or wood products industry. Knowledge of timber characteristics (species, grading, dimensions, treatments) and safe handling practices. Experience creating and managing Bills of Materials in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with NetSuite, IVY, or other ERP systems and inventory management software. Experience identifying and managing obsolete and slow-moving inventory, with strategies to reduce stock holding costs. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting (e.g. Excel, ERP reporting modules). Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills. Proactive mindset with attention to detail and process discipline. Able to coach, train and develop other areas and departments of the business in Warehouse management processes.
