Overview
We are looking to recruit an adaptable User Researcher who can work effectively in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver excellent results across GDS projects for Version 1’s customers in the public sector.
Responsibilities
* Plan, design and carry out research activities with users that help teams gain a deep understanding of end users. This research informs policy, proposition, service, content, and interaction design so that services work well for users and achieve policy intent.
* Convey research findings clearly to stakeholders and collaborate with colleagues to inform decisions and increase consensus.
Qualifications
* User Research and Analysis
o Understand the diversity of users of services and how to include all kinds of users in appropriate research activities to help teams deliver accessible services.
o Experience with a range of user research methods; choose appropriate methods for different stages of the product life cycle and situations.
o Ability to turn research data into clear findings and involve colleagues in analysis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions.
* Design thinking and evidence-based design
o Strong understanding of design thinking and ability to apply frameworks as appropriate to project circumstances.
o Evidence-based design approach; test assumptions to ensure simple, feasible solutions for users.
* Focus on users and their needs
o Undertake basic user research activities and collaborate with researchers to understand users and test designs for usability and accessibility.
o Design to meet a wide range of user needs; explain design decisions and design constraints.
* Concepts and prototyping
o Evaluate concepts and prototypes and explain them to stakeholders.
o Apply design patterns and participate in wider design community discussions.
* Consultancy Skills
o Communicate design processes and decisions effectively to gain the confidence of internal colleagues and customers.
o Manage stakeholders and know when to escalate issues to unblock design work.
* Agile working in multidisciplinary teams
o Align work to user-centred design practices within agile workflows across the development lifecycle.
o Work in an open, iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team.
