Offer description

Lecturer - Agriculture (Crops)

Location: Cambridge

Hours: 37 per week

Salary: £31,904 - £40,233 per annum

This role attracts a £3,000 golden handshake, payable in the first salary payment.

Are you passionate about the agricultural industry? Do you want to motivate and inspire the next generation of farmers and agricultural specialists? Are you looking for a route to share your skills and knowledge to support the farmers of the future to build successful careers?

CWA is looking to expand our offer at our Cambridge (Milton) campus by re‑introducing agricultural courses, including L2 Technical Certificate in Agriculture. Our campus has over 100 acres to support land‑based learning, including a veterinary lab, dog grooming parlour and equestrian centre.

This is an exciting new role where you will influence the delivery of agricultural learning through the development of resources, practical and classroom‑based teaching. Not taught before? It doesn't matter! We offer a generous and supportive training package, including help to obtain a full teaching qualification and a robust induction programme.

Teaching is a thoroughly rewarding and respected career. We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic person to deliver innovative, high‑standard sessions and support for students studying at the Cambridge campus.

The successful candidate will have a Level 3 qualification or Degree in a relevant subject area, or equivalent. You must have relevant industrial experience in a rural or agricultural environment, experience in arable, and machinery. Experience of teaching is preferred, but not essential. You must hold a relevant teaching qualification or be committed to obtaining one at level 5 within the first three years of employment. You must hold a Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE A–*C/9–4) or equivalent, or be willing to obtain within 18 months of employment.

We pride ourselves on our approach to the work‑life balance of our team and actively support job share and flexible working opportunities.

Please note that your point on the salary scale will be determined based on both experience and teaching qualifications. Appointments will not normally be made at point 12 or above (£37,454 FTE) without a level 5 teaching qualification and experience.

We are a successful, community‑focused FE College based in the East of England. We have a thriving land‑based team and in recent years the department has grown from strength to strength. We offer an incredible training package and a chance to work within a tight‑knit supportive team.

Benefits

We offer an excellent package including a generous annual leave allowance of 37 days per year for curriculum staff, plus five College closure days and Bank Holidays (pro‑rata for part‑time), fee waivers on some College courses, a contributory pension scheme with the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (current employer contribution is 23.68%), discounts with local businesses and access to a cycle‑to‑work scheme. CWA focusses on staff well‑being and utilises both internal and external resources, such as a well‑being committee and access to a free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme as well as comprehensive training and development.

CWA is a Disability Confident employer and offers a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled candidates who meet all essential criteria for a role. We encourage you to disclose any disabilities and whether or not you wish to be considered under this scheme.

CWA is committed to safeguarding and all staff appointments are subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS checks. You will be required to provide references and undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check as well as a barred list check. All shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online search.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 but Exceptions Order may apply.

Full details of our Safeguarding Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection policy can be found at Policies (cwa.ac.uk).

CWA reserves the right to close this vacancy early should sufficiently suitably qualified applications be received prior to the closing date.
