Overview
This is a temporary post until February 2028, with a contract length of up to 20 months. The role is based at an Environment Agency office, but offers a flexible / hybrid working arrangement as a national role. A range of development opportunities will be provided and appropriate training will be offered.
Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver freshwater monitoring work across lakes, small streams and rivers.
* Refine and develop monitoring protocols and networks, including managing funded projects.
* Build and maintain networks with internal and external experts to address technical challenges.
* Contribute to technical decision‑making on innovative monitoring techniques such as eDNA.
* Advise colleagues on the ongoing delivery of the small‑stream, lake and river surveillance networks.
* Plan analysis to maximise insights from co‑located data.
* Work independently and within projects with partners and contractors to ensure monitoring networks fulfil their potential.
Qualifications
* Degree or higher qualification in an environmental discipline.
* Strong experience of collecting and analysing environmental data in the freshwater environment.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of existing and emerging practice in water data science.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate technical issues to varied audiences, and collaborate in virtual teams.
* Project management experience is advantageous.
