Kingston Hospital
Kingston Hospital is a busy, flourishing Foundation Trust with approximately 600 beds and a 22 bed private wing. A wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions are dealt with on an inpatient, outpatient and day case basis. Intensive care, coronary care and high dependency facilities are available. Further subspecialities include an active maxillo-facial unit and an eye unit.
The General Medical and Care of the Elderly (COE) Services operate from 180 beds including a 5 bedded cardiac step‑down unit and a 20 bedded stroke unit. In addition there is a 50 bed integrated Acute Assessment Unit (AAU). Specialty Departments within the Medicine include Elderly care, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Dermatology, Sexual Health, Rheumatology, and Diabetes / Endocrinology.
Role
The successful post‑holders will work on the Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) inpatient unit, which consists of 36 beds for unscheduled (emergency) admissions. Typically, up to 80% of these patients will be elderly and/or have multiple and complex co‑morbidities. Kingston Hospital has a much higher proportion of very elderly patients within emergency admissions compared with the London (and England) average, and the expansion of the Elderly Care department, including Orthogeriatrics, reflects the large number of elderly people being cared for in our hospital as a whole.
Due to career progression, we are advertising three fixed‑term posts at Trust Grade. The successful candidates will join a ward‑based multidisciplinary team (MDT) including two consultant Orthogeriatricians and one Specialty Doctor.

Although there are no specific on‑call commitments attached to this post, a requirement to participate in a 7‑day working pattern with the team covering weekends on a 1:4 basis exists.
