We work closely with headteachers and senior leaders to ensure pupils are supported at every stage of the day — including during lunch, when structure and supervision are crucial. Our Midday Meal Supervisors are valued members of school teams, providing consistency, care, and clear boundaries during one of the busiest times of the school day. What the Role Involves As a Midday Meal Supervisor in Tameside, you will be responsible for supervising pupils during the lunchtime period. This includes time spent in dining areas, corridors, classrooms, and playgrounds. Your role is to ensure pupils are safe, behaving appropriately, and enjoying their break in a positive way. You will also support children who may need extra reassurance or guidance during lunchtime. Your Key Responsibilities Your day-to-day duties will include: Supervising pupils as they arrive for lunch and move around the school safely Supporting children during mealtimes, including younger pupils where needed Encouraging good manners and respectful behaviour Being aware of allergies, dietary needs, and medical conditions Maintaining a calm, organised dining environment Supervising outdoor play and ensuring children use equipment safely Supporting indoor play during poor weather Encouraging inclusive play and positive social interaction Managing low-level behaviour issues in line with school policies De-escalating minor conflicts calmly and fairly Providing reassurance to pupils who may feel upset or unsettled Administering basic first aid when required (training provided) Reporting accidents, incidents, or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate staff member Working as part of a wider lunchtime and school support team What We’re Looking For You do not need previous school experience to apply.
