Electrician – HMP Prescoed, Pontypool NP15 1PS
Standard hours: 39 hours per week. Shift pattern: Mon‑Thu 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Fri 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.
At Amey we support His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service by ensuring our facilities are safe, clean and efficient. The Electrician plays an integral role in maintaining secure premises.
What you will do
* Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract.
* Test and inspect electrical installations in line with IEE wiring regulations.
* Respond promptly to breakdowns, carrying out work safely and efficiently.
* Perform planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnose/replacing failed domestic electrical components.
* Actively fault‑find and problem‑solve on domestic electrical systems.
* Undertake electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
* Monitor and order critical spares for all electrical services, and oversee the BMS System.
* Support zero carbon initiatives, contribute to sustainability goals, and handle additional tasks as directed.
What you will bring
* Appropriate technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above).
* BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition.
* Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
* Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution, installation and testing.
* Ability to work alone and use initiative.
* Capable of working at heights.
