Senior Social Work Practitioner (Children’s Services) – Social Care Qualified (Grade 9)Location: Blaina, Abertillery
Employment Type: Temporary
Duration: 16 Weeks
Start Date: 27 January 2026
Hours: 37 hours per week
Work Pattern: No fixed pattern – office-based on duty days and back-up duty days as required
Salary:
1. PAYE: £31.71 per hour
2. Umbrella: £42.51 per hour
Are you an experienced Social Worker ready to take the next step in your career? Network Recruitment Wales is recruiting a Senior Social Work Practitioner to join the Statutory Assessment Team within Children’s Services in Blaenau Gwent. This 16-week temporary role has arisen due to a vacancy pending permanent recruitment and offers an excellent opportunity to provide leadership while making a meaningful difference to children and families.
This is a fast-paced, rewarding role focusing on Section 47 enquiries and consent-based Integrated Assessments, allowing you to concentrate on early, impactful intervention before cases transfer to longer-term teams.
What You’ll Do:
3. Lead on high-quality, proportionate statutory assessments, including Section 47 enquiries and Integrated Assessments.
4. Manage a complex caseload, ensuring safeguarding and welfare needs of children are met.
5. Support and mentor Social Workers through coaching, guidance, and monthly supervision in line with departmental policy.
6. Undertake decision-making on new referrals and coordinate timely, outcome-focused assessments.
7. Chair complex meetings where appropriate and contribute to effective multi-agency working.
8. Step in for the Team Manager when required, supporting service continuity and leadership.
9. Work closely with performance and data teams to ensure accurate recording and reporting.
10. Promote strengths-based, reflective, and anti-discriminatory practice across the service.
What We’re Looking For:
11. A qualified Social Worker with a Degree in Social Work.
12. Registration with Social Care Wales (essential).
13. Significant experience within Children’s Services, particularly statutory assessment and safeguarding.
14. Strong leadership, supervision, and mentoring skills.
15. Excellent communication, report-writing, and decision-making abilities.
16. A sound understanding of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.
17. Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding children and adults at risk.
Essential Requirements:
18. Eligibility to work in the UK.
19. Social Care Wales registration.
20. Enhanced DBS check.
21. CV.
22. 5 years of references/work history.
23. Signed Confidentiality Agreement (on offer acceptance).
