Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Zen Educate is seeking a dedicated individual to work at an alternative provision in Bristol on a full-time, long-term basis, supporting primary-aged students with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. The role is ideally starting in the New Year, working from 8:30 to 3:30, Monday to Friday, during term time only.
These students may come from challenging backgrounds such as difficult home lives, foster care, or trauma, and may display challenging behaviors. Therefore, resilience and the ability to handle daily challenges are essential. Experience working with special needs is required, which can include experience with adults as an alternative setting.
The school, located in west Bristol, is housed in an old manor house with excellent outdoor facilities. Class sizes are small, with about six students per class, and there is substantial adult support available. The school's goal is to engage students in their education and provide a stable, safe environment for them to express themselves healthily.
Requirements:
1. Experience working with special needs, particularly those related to mental health.
2. Experience working with children in a school environment is preferred but not essential.
3. A resilient attitude, with the ability to manage challenging behaviors and build positive relationships with students through clear boundaries and expectations.
4. Reliability and consistency in commitments, being a dependable team member.
5. Good teamwork and communication skills with colleagues and teachers regarding student progress.
6. An enhanced DBS check on the update service, either held or applied for.
Zen offers competitive pay, training, and support to help you succeed, with the potential for a permanent position if the placement is successful.
