Consultant Vascular Surgeon Dorset & Wiltshire Vascular Network
The closing date is 08 July 2026
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Dorset and Wiltshire Vascular Network as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon.
You will be based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, but will be expected to provide planned clinical sessions across other Network sites, predominantly at Poole General and Christchurch Hospitals, and to travel to other sites within the Network on an emergency basis.
The Dorset and Wiltshire Vascular Network provides elective and emergency vascular services for the population of Dorset and South Wiltshire with a presence at Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole and Salisbury hospitals. The 24/7 emergency service is based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital and is supported by a 24/7 Specialist Interventional Radiology service.
The job plan provided assumes a full‑time commitment; candidates wishing to work part‑time or job‑share will be considered. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in this speciality.
Main duties of the job
This is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon post within the DWVN, based at the Main Arterial Centre (MAC) in Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The ability to work across non‑arterial sites within the DWVN (Dorchester, Poole and Salisbury) is essential, as is the ability to use your own transport to travel between sites. The post includes 24/7 vascular emergency cover from the MAC in Bournemouth, organised on a consultant‑of‑the‑week rota where Consultants are freed from elective activity whilst on‑call.
The post will be paired with an experienced DWVN Consultant to share a weekly all‑day elective theatre list, providing opportunity for ‘buddy’ operating for major surgical cases and expansive case mix experience. Outpatient clinics will be based in Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, with occasional coverage elsewhere within the Network in exceptional circumstances.
A well‑established weekly Network MDT covers all arterial work and is attended by surgeons, interventional radiologists, vascular anaesthetists, stroke consultants, advanced nurse practitioners and resident medical staff. Consultants also support daily ward rounds and participate in Trust educational and governance activities, including regular half‑day clinical governance sessions.
About us
The post may involve participation in an out‑of‑hours rota, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, in accordance with service needs. Any work undertaken outside standard hours/PA’s will attract remuneration in line with the respective NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.
