TREATMENT ROOM NURSE VACANCY

Hours: 32 per week
Days: Monday to Friday
Salary: Depending on experience
Introduction:
We are seeking to employ a Treatment Room Nurse who will work independently using their own initiative and be accountable for their own professional actions. Provide support and leadership for the Health Care Assistant and other members of the Primary Health Care Team. To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the General Practitioners and the Management Team.
Main Responsibilities:
* Procedures to include, venepuncture, blood pressure checks, urinalysis, injections, height and weight, smoking cessation, swabs, ECGs, stitch/clip removal, cervical cytology and wound management. Liaise with hospitals, laboratories and other service providers. Administers adult and childhood immunisations and vaccinations in accordance with national and local programmes. Is competent and up to date in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
* Ensures safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs and adequate stock levels are maintained.
* Provides routine cervical screening tests.
* To liaise with reception staff to make appointments and follow-up arrangements for patients.
* Work within all relevant practice and Department of Health policies and procedural guidelines e.g. infection control, chaperoning and patient group directions.
* Disposal of infected waste.
* Liaise with the Practice Manager to order medical supplies and check and record delivery and storage of supplies.
* Test samples as required. Preparation of clinical specimens for collection.
* Fridge temperature log and report cold chain issues as necessary.
* To assist the General Practitioner with Minor Surgery and other clinical procedures.
* Keep up to date professional development through reading, studying and attending refresher courses and Revalidation.
* To facilitate health promotion programmes and general health issues as required.
* To maintain all necessary clinical and computerised records.
* To ensure that all clinical equipment meets health and safety requirements.
* To ensure proper decontamination of non-disposable medical/clinical equipment.
* To ensure that there are adequate stocks of all necessary equipment and medical items in use in the Treatment Room and Doctors' surgeries.
* Adaptability to the changing needs of the service, to be prepared to take on additional duties or relinquish existing duties in order to maintain efficient running of the practice.
* Any other duties within reason and capability as required by management
Essential Criteria:
Degree, Diploma or other nursing qualification allowing registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council.
Current Nursing & Midwifery Council registration.
2 years post registration experience
Previous experience in Venepuncture and administration of vaccinations.
Excellent organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Desirable Criteria:
Smear taker qualifications - training can be provided.
