An exciting opportunity to join our dynamic evolving Fabrication team and be part of an ambitious, expanding family business.

The Opportunity:
We are looking for a high quality, motivated person to lead our Fabrication operations, and help us to drive our business forward. The role is based at our Estate Road 2 site in Grimsby. We are offering a strong rate of pay, excellent company culture, good facilities, terms and conditions along with a generous pension are available with this full-time role.

Flexible Working: We offer flexible working routines based on 38.5 hour standard week; opportunity to work a 4 day compressed week, or standard 5 day week as suits the incumbent best.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

As the Fabrication & Welding Manager, you will oversee all workshop activities, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality fabricated and welded products. You will manage our team of fabricators and welders, collate pricing proposals, coordinate projects, maintain health and safety standards, and work closely with the Operations Director and Machining Manager to meet customer expectations and business goals. This is a varied role requiring technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to upholding our family business values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Workshop Management:
Oversee daily operations of the fabrication and welding workshop, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.


• Team Leadership: Manage, motivate, and mentor a team of approximately 10, including scheduling workloads, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

* Technical Expertise:
Provide hands-on support for complex fabrication and welding tasks, including MIG, TIG, and MMA welding, as well as cutting, forming, and assembly of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
* Project Work Proposals/Quotes:
Lead on quoting/estimating larger project work proposals.
* Production Planning:
Coordinate workload to plan and prioritise jobs, ensuring efficient use of resources, materials, and labour.


• Quality Control: Oversight of completed work to ensure compliance with technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 3834, BS EN 1090 Exc Class 3).

* Health and Safety:
Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations, including oversight of risk assessments, COSHH compliance, and safe operation of equipment. Maintain a safe and tidy workshop environment.
* Customer Liaison:
Collaborate with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical advice, and ensure customer satisfaction. Attend site visits for project measurements or oversite of installations/works.


• Inventory & Procurement: Oversee procurement of materials and consumables, liaising with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing and timely deliveries.

* Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes, reduce waste, and enhance productivity, contributing to the company's growth and profitability.
* Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of production schedules, job progress, material usage, and oversight of employee timesheets.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

* Minimum of 15 years' experience in fabrication and welding, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
* Proven expertise in fabrication and MIG, TIG, and MMA welding techniques across various materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium).
* Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
* Knowledge of relevant industry standards (specifically, ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 3834, BS EN 1090 Exc Cl 3).
* Formal welding or fabrication qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
* Full UK driving licence (as site visits will be required).
