Bringing energy, enthusiasm and a hands-on approach, you’ll ensure each café runs smoothly day to day while consistently delivering high standards of service and compliance. This is a pivotal position that helps create an environment that supports wellbeing and learning, while contributing to the success and sustainability of our wider offer.
This is a zero hours contract however if you wanted regular slots / hours we would be happy to discuss this at interview up to a max of 18hrs per week. There are multiple roles available.
The hours we are looking to fill across multiple new joiners are 0830-4pm Monday - Friday.
What you'll be doing
You'll run every aspect of our café operation. From sourcing ingredients and preparing fresh food to serving customers and managing daily finances.
Your role goes beyond typical café work:
1. Develop menus focused on affordable, healthy eating that serves the local community
2. Meet sales targets and recruitment goals for income, volunteers, and learners
3. Prepare food and barista coffee to excellent hygiene and safety standards
4. Support volunteers and learners to develop café skills and build confidence
5. Organise events and workshops that promote our wider learning programmes
6. Handle all daily operations: stock checks, cash handling, banking, and sales reporting
7. Act as our shop window – connecting café customers with our broader services
8. Explore innovative ideas to grow the café whilst keeping it commercially viable
The must haves
9. Experience working in catering or hospitality
10. Basic cooking skills and willingness to develop further
11. Qualified to at least Level 2 in a relevant subject or occupational area
12. Food Safety Level 2 qualification or willingness to gain quickly
13. Understanding of food safety and hygiene procedures
14. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environment
15. Genuine commitment to supporting long-term unemployed people
16. Positive, energetic personality with enthusiasm for helping others
17. Strong relationship-building and communication skills
18. Basic maths skills for budgeting and cash handling
19. Resilience for this challenging but rewarding sector
