The role
Transform your hospitality skills into something truly meaningful. This isn't just another café role our cafés are vibrant, welcoming spaces at the heart of our service, and this role is key to making them places people truly want to be. Bringing energy, enthusiasm and a hands-on approach, you’ll ensure each café runs smoothly day to day while consistently delivering high standards of service and compliance. This is a pivotal position that helps create an environment that supports wellbeing and learning, while contributing to the success and sustainability of our wider offer.
This is a zero hours contract however if you wanted regular slots / hours we would be happy to discuss this at interview up to a max of 18hrs per week. There are multiple roles available.
The hours we are looking to fill across multiple new joiners are 0830-4pm Monday - Friday.
What you'll be doing
You'll run every aspect of our café operation. From sourcing ingredients and preparing fresh food to serving customers and managing daily finances.
Your role goes beyond typical café work:
Develop menus focused on affordable, healthy eating that serves the local communityMeet sales targets and recruitment goals for income, volunteers, and learnersPrepare food and barista coffee to excellent hygiene and safety standardsSupport volunteers and learners to develop café skills and build confidenceOrganise events and workshops that promote our wider learning programmesHandle all daily operations: stock checks, cash handling, banking, and sales reportingAct as our shop window – connecting café customers with our broader servicesExplore innovative ideas to grow the café whilst keeping it commercially viableThe must haves
Experience working in catering or hospitalityBasic cooking skills and willingness to develop furtherQualified to at least Level 2 in a relevant subject or occupational areaFood Safety Level 2 qualification or willingness to gain quicklyUnderstanding of food safety and hygiene proceduresAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environmentGenuine commitment to supporting long-term unemployed peoplePositive, energetic personality with enthusiasm for helping othersStrong relationship-building and communication skillsBasic maths skills for budgeting and cash handlingResilience for this challenging but rewarding sectorWhat will make you stand out
Experience in support roles or Information, Advice and GuidanceLove working in front-line services with proven experienceSkilled at baking, cooking, and sourcing value-for-money ingredientsInterest in supporting wellbeing activities and employment programmesTraining and development knowledgeExperience implementing change and bringing colleagues along
