Principal Energy Consultant (Thermal Generation) – Energy Advisory

Within our Energy Advisory capability we advise clients on decarbonisation and net‑zero challenges, supporting the global energy transition. We focus on decentralised low‑carbon generation, technology innovation, and policy and regulatory support.
We seek a technical specialist with design and/or operational experience on large thermal generation or energy‑from‑waste projects, including boilers, turbines and combustion systems. The ideal candidate has a background in modern and future energy systems and can demonstrate experience in engineering design, life‑cycle cost analysis, and energy‑management solutions.
The successful candidate will contribute to our decarbonisation services, develop utility plant and emission‑reduction projects, mentor colleagues, and support our global operations and sales teams in delivering innovative client solutions.
Key responsibilities
* Lead technical aspects of projects, ensuring data quality and project deliverables.
* Engage stakeholders at all levels and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of energy and carbon policy developments.
* Review and contribute to engineering design through the entire project lifecycle.
* Appraise energy‑generation technology options and conduct life‑cycle cost analyses for large industrial systems.
* Perform energy‑management, asset reviews, and audit surveys; model energy demand and propose low‑carbon solutions.
* Prepare bid documentation, manage tight timescales, and coordinate multiple schemes simultaneously.
* Support health and safety initiatives, eliminating or reducing risk early in the design process.
Qualifications
* Engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical or equivalent process‑related).
* Design and/or operational experience on large thermal generation or energy‑from‑waste projects.
* Site‑based experience with utility systems and consultancy engineering.
* Strong project‑management skills, including programme development and communication.
* Knowledge of environmental, carbon and energy policy and legislation.
* Excellent quantitative, problem‑solving and communication skills.
* Experience developing standard engineering deliverables such as heat and mass balances.
