The successful individual will lead our midwifery and gynaecologyservices, pursuing excellence in women's health, working as a key member of thesenior leadership team in Care Group 3.
Main duties of the job
The Head of Midwifery and Nursing will be a visible and professional role model for the maternity and nursing workforce with a strong focus on improving womens and families experiences of maternity and gynaecology services and provide overarching leadership in the management of complaints and womens experiences, including practice changes from lessons learned.
* The post holder has oversight responsibility for Maternity and Gynaecology services, in particular clinical governance, and safety issues, providing professional and line management support to the matrons.
* The post holder will ensure workforce tools are utilized to embed safe and effective staffing models across the service and clinical areas supporting the matrons to deliver this.
* The post holder will be responsible for maintaining clinical standards, benchmarking using Clinical Governance Frameworks and audit to ensure high quality care is provided and give assurance to the maternity directorate senior management team.
* The post holder will provide visible clinical and professional leadership for maternity working in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure National A- EQUIP, Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) and PNA model is well established and effective.
* Take the lead for safeguarding within Maternity and Gynaecology Services

Experience
* Broad range of clinical midwifery experience acquired through significant recent practice at a senior leadership level.
* Evidence of Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS) collaborative working
* Proven record of leading and effectively managing change across organisations
* Evidence of leadership development
* Published in professional journals
* Presentations at local regional and national events
* Contribution to scholarly activities and publications.
* Experience of supporting midwifery and nursing teams with research projects and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Current NMC registration
* Leadership Qualification
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Registered Nurse

Knowledge
* Expert knowledge of Midwifery and Safeguarding.
* Ability to innovate and drive improvement; leading on the development of evidence based policies and guidance to improve the quality and continuity in patient care.
* Sound knowledge of NHS agenda and National Policy, and an understanding how this translates to Maternity and Neonatal Services.
