This is an exciting opportunity to join our Highway Network Management Section as a Road & Street Works Co-ordinator Engineer. The efficient co-ordination of road and street works is one of the most important aspects of street works legislation, benefiting street authorities, undertakers and road users by ensuring works are undertaken safely, inconvenience to people using a street is minimised and the structure of the street and the apparatus in it is protected. WHAT IS INVOLVED? The duties of this role include, but aren’t limited to; Responsible for the coordination of complex works, events, and activities on the highway in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Coordination of Street Works and Code of Practice for Safety at Street and Road Works, throughout the county to avoid unnecessary conflict thus mitigating disruption to the highway user. Provide technical advice on the design and execution of complex temporary traffic management and road safety requirements for works, events and activities on the highway to both internal and external organisations. Responsible for ensuring that the council uses its powers under the New Roads and Street Works Act, Highways Act and Traffic Management Act, associated Statutory Instruments and Codes of Practice effectively, efficiently and equably with all works promotors. Ensuring all Coordination Team staff provide accurate and timely information regarding planned and emergency road and street works affecting the highway so that it is available to elected members, MPs, senior management, members of the public and other stakeholders. You will be assisted by and have supervisory responsibility for a team of technicians and civil engineering apprentices. In addition, you will also be required to undertake any other duties commensurate with the post, as directed by the Highway Network Management Section Manager or Road and Street Works Operations Team Leader, in carrying out the coordination of works by works promoters as well as any other functions undertaken by the Highway Network Management Section. You should have a Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant subject or equivalent and be willing to work towards and achieve relevant technical qualifications in road and street works including National Highway Sector Scheme – Temporary Traffic Management Award and National Highway Sector Scheme 12D M7 – Temporary Traffic Management for Managers, Designers and Technical Officers.
