About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Structural Integrity Engineer to join our Structural Integrity & Materials Engineering (SIME) Team within MSSI. The role involves working on national and international civil and defence programs, developing and applying structural integrity assessment methods, especially for metallic components. The ideal candidate should have experience or understanding in:
* Conventional and computational stress analysis, particularly using Abaqus finite element software
* Fracture mechanics methodologies (e.g., R6, BS7910) for defect tolerance assessments and engineering critical assessments
* Inelastic deformation and failure mechanisms of structural components
* Scientific and scripting programming languages (C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab)
This role offers opportunities to support clients on the structural integrity of regulated assets. Our team is based mainly at Birchwood Park near Warrington, with additional offices in Manchester and Knutsford. We serve clients mainly in the nuclear industry, ensuring safe operation of capital-intensive assets, and participate in national and international projects, collaborating with universities and presenting at conferences.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform and lead technical analysis, modeling, and consultancy tasks
* Produce technical reports, conclusions, and recommendations
* Collaborate with project teams, suppliers, and clients
* Complete tasks on time, within budget, and to quality standards
* Ensure work complies with health, safety, environment, security, and quality requirements
* Maintain high standards of work quality
* Work independently with guidance on complex issues
Qualifications and Skills:
* Degree (Level 6 or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or engineering field
* Membership of a professional institution (e.g., EngTech) is desirable
* Specialist knowledge in relevant areas
* Experience in engineering design, development, and problem-solving
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
