This key position sits within West Yorkshire Police’s Finance and Commercial Services Directorate, playing a vital role in protecting public money and supporting frontline policing through effective financial management and insurance governance. We’re looking for a proactive, detail focused professional who can work confidently both independently and as part of a busy team, managing a varied workload with accuracy and professionalism.
As a key member of the Finance Support Team, you’ll lead the day to day delivery of the Force’s insurance function while providing high quality financial and administrative support across the organisation, including NPAS and regional operations. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, budget holders and external partners, ensuring compliance sound risk management and continuous improvement.

Role and Responsibilities
You will play a key role in delivering effective finance and insurance services across the Force. This includes managing insurance policies and claims, maintaining accurate records, supporting financial performance and supervising staff.
Key duties include:
• Managing and developing the Force’s insurance function, including policy procurement, review and self insurance arrangements
• Supporting the management of insurance claims and budgets, producing accurate management information
• Maintaining up to date insurance records across the Force, NPAS and regional operations
• Providing financial and administrative support, ensuring income and expenditure are accurately recorded
• Building strong working relationships with senior leaders, budget holders and stakeholders
• Assisting with financial strategy development and corporate performance management
• Supervising and supporting the Finance and Insurance Officer, managing performance, attendance and wellbeing
• Acting as a professional point of contact for finance and insurance enquiries
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and service delivery

Essential Criteria
• Strong working knowledge of financial administration processes
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
• Experience supervising or supporting staff
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Clear experience of self-motivation and workload prioritisation.
• Can demonstrate a high level of numeracy and literacy
Desirable:
• Experience in maintaining an organisations insurance portfolio
• Experience advising or influencing senior stakeholders
• Involvement in insurance strategy or policy development
• Experience working in a public sector or regulated environment
