Getting It Right First Time (GiRFT) is a National Programme hosted by NHS England that focuses on improving the quality of care by using data to reduce unwarranted variation and helping providers restore clinical services after the Covid-19 pandemic.</p><p>This is an exciting opportunity for a trainee in general surgery or a SAS doctor with equivalent experience to work on quality improvement and national policy related to general surgery, directly supervised by the National Clinical Lead for General Surgery at GiRFT. The role is a hybrid: 24 hours a week funded by the GiRFT programme and 24 hours of clinical work funded by the Trust.</p><p>Contribution to an out of hours on-call rota is core to this role.</p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Understanding and reducing unwarranted variation in the care of surgical patients</li><li>Implementation of surgical pathways for High Volume Low Complexity procedures (HVLC)</li><li>New pathways for outpatient care including Advice and Guidance, straight to test and PIFU</li><li>Quantifying and mitigating the risk of harm to patients on elective waiting lists</li><li>Developing new models of care such as procedure room treatments</li><li>Improving training opportunities in general surgery</li><li>Research related to the national delivery of general surgery Clinical</li><li>Carry out 24 hours of clinical work a week on average</li><li>Attend outpatient clinics, operating lists and potentially endoscopy lists under supervision of a consultant surgeon</li><li>Contribute to the emergency general surgery on-call rota at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, and work within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) to provide acute services to the surrounding population</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Trainee in general surgery or a SAS doctor with equivalent experience</li><li>Commitment to quality improvement and data analysis</li><li>Strong presentation and communication skills</li><li>Ability to work independently as part of a national programme</li></ul></div>
