About the Opportunity
The county of Staffordshire is diverse in its geography and its cultures, and is 2713 square kilometres in size. It is made up of the cities of Stoke-on-Trent and Lichfield, and the major towns of Stafford, Burton-upon-Trent, Cannock, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Tamworth and Leek. We have 33 Fire Stations across the county.
Staffordshire Fire & Rescue (SFRS) have an exciting opportunity if you would like to be instrumental in delivering our Prevention, Partnership & Safeguarding Strategy. As our Prevention & Safeguarding Lead you will provide leadership and direction to our dedicated Local Prevention Teams, Education Team, Contact Centre, Fire & Health Partnership Teams, and Volunteers, in our aim to make Staffordshire communities safer and stronger.
You will play a pivotal role in implementing and ensuring the effective delivery of our Annual Service Delivery Plan, Road Safety Delivery Plan, Secondary Fire Prevention Plan, and Education policies. To do this you will build new, and develop existing, partnerships that help us deliver better outcomes for our communities.
Key Responsibilities include:
1. Design, lead and implement the Prevention, Safeguarding and Education offer for the Service, as required to meet the strategic objectives of the organisation.
2. Deliver objectives in relation to the performance management framework, measuring prevent and safeguarding activities.
3. Ensure that new and existing prevention activity is based on, and delivered to, those most at risk.
4. Identify, implement and maintain external partnerships, which improve the health,
safety, and wellbeing of our communities.
5. Responsible for ensuring the workforce is adequately trained in prevention and
safeguarding activities.
6. Ensure the workforce has access to suitable and sufficient software and hardware for
the recording of prevention and safeguarding data, which enables accurate reporting of data/measures.
7. Responsible for ensuring provision and upkeep of all Prevention, Safeguarding and Education related policies.
8. Maintain up to date knowledge of regional and national approaches to Prevention,
Safeguarding and Education and implement/adopt as necessary.
9. Line management responsibility for the Prevention Managers (x3)
10. Work in conjunction with Marketing and Communications to ensure a joined up
approach to Prevention messaging and campaigns.
11. Ensure the Service complies with, or is working towards, achievement of relevant fire
standards.
12. Responsibility for overseeing prevention budgets ensuring spending remains within
agreed limits and authorisation of spend.
13. Oversee the Services Volunteering offer ensuring it is effective and periodically reviewed, making recommendations for change as and when required
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience include:
14. Extensive management experience.
15. Relevant safeguarding knowledge and experience.
16. Knowledge and experience of working within the Intervention and Community Safety arena.
17. Knowledge and experience of working with prevention programmes.
18. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written and verbal) in order to facilitate essential communication, both internally and with stakeholders and partners.
Desirable Skills include:
19. Level 4 Safeguarding trained.
20. Experience of working with vulnerable groups.
21. Knowledge of the Voluntary Sector
22. Knowledge of Safer Recruitment and DBS procedures
23. Knowledge of policy and bid writing
